PRIDE Haldimand Norfolk is committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in our community and providing equal opportunity to people of all identities, as guaranteed in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
PRIDE Haldimand Norfolk (HN), established in 2017, is a non-profit grassroots initiative committed to promoting peace, equality, diversity, and inclusion in Haldimand and Norfolk. We endeavour to raise awareness of and offer support to all H-N residents who identify as Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ in our rural region. We also provide a forum and a gathering place for their loving family members, friends, co-workers, neighbours, and everyone else in H-N committed to allyship with this often marginalized community.
Our annual PRIDE DAY celebration is an opportunity for those who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ and their allies to gather together in community; to celebrate all Canadians’ legally enshrined equality; and to support local musicians, artists, and businesses from the community.
The Pride HN Board is a vibrant and active organization, with approximately 20 volunteer committee members, actively involved in the planning and creation of Pride events throughout the year, including the annual Pride Day celebration. The executive board members meet monthly, and contribute an average of 5 hours a week, or 15-20 hours a month to the planning and preparations for our Pride Day event.
Over 50 volunteers attend and participate in the event each year, and community members & businesses support this initiative by providing sponsorship, including both in-kind and monetary amounts. Partnerships with social justice-focused organizations and businesses allow the Pride HN team to support and participate in events and fundraisers such as Holiday Markets and Drag Shows throughout the year. Volunteers on the Pride HN committee maintain a significant year round social media presence, and this support is available to the community throughout the year.
